Please pray for Jan and Jamie Eyre (who used to be part of TCH Sharrow). They are currently working with MedAir in Afghanistan. A Christian aid worker was shot in the last couple of days in Kabul because she worked for a Chrfistian organisation.

News from Samuel

I was reflecting at the last ReUnion how it had only been one month since we were ‘sent out’ as a Kurdish team. It has been a month full of opportunities and I would ask you to thank God for all the conversations and bible stories we have shared with Kurdish friends. I was prompted to write up this entry by Ann as she said others would want to be praying for some of our friends. We do believe it is a crucial time for some of our Kurdish friends.

Pray for the following:

The Kurdish family, M and S, who orginally suggested to have ‘church’ in their home. We have been meeting every week with them. Often it is really encouraging as we share stories from the bible with them. What we want to see is that we will open up the scriptures with them more regularly and for this to become an established routine. We’re also aware that M and S are starting to wonder if they want to keep hearing about Jesus as his teachings begin to challenge them. Pray they would be won over by Jesus.
Two ‘middle-class’ Kurdish guys, A and A, who we had a great time talking to this week. There is an openess to think about Jesus and we’ve encouraged them to ask God in prayer to reveal the truth to them. Pray we would be regularly sharing the scriptures with them over the next month.
For Kurdish friend, M, who has been busy completing his university studies. He was keen to read the bible before but is now distracted by his other responsibilities. Pray he would make the time to hear about Jesus and spend time with his people.
Fiona needs wisdom about how to serve Kurdish women in Sheffield. She has enjoyed being involved in a Women’s Group at the Kurdish Community Centre. This has been put on hold and is now in disarray as there is no one to organise it. Fiona is keen to not to do it herself for various good reasons but it means she doesn’t have this regular contact with her Kurdish friends now.

When marriage is hard…

Could you all pray for ‘Jack’ and ‘Jill’, neighbours who are having a very difficult time in their marriage. It looks as though they are going to split up. Phil has had some great chats with ‘Jack’. He is from a christian background and his mum prays regularly for him. Phil and ‘Jack’ talked about the heart and how when we don’t worship God we worship someone or something else. ‘Jack’ is torn as he doesn’t want to follow God if its not 100% but he doesn’t want the consequences of following God – he wants to life his life his own way. Pray that they will stay together and be up for reading the bible/meeting up with Phil and Janelle.

Helen’s father has come through his operation okay. Thank you for your prayers. He’s all wires and tubes at the moment, but talking. He should be in the intensive care unit for 24-48 hours after which he’ll be moved to the high dependency ward.

pray for a dear family close to Kdish Team. Wife and 2 children went back to **** this weekend visiting family which could be very dangerous for them considering the “Wanted” status of her husband (still in Sheffield) and the times they have demonstrated against the **** government.

We are back in Sheffield. Thank you for praying. As we suspected, the outlook for the operation on Tuesday is not as bleak as Helen’s father initially thought. (The doctor who was supposed to talk to him sent a nurse with a leaflet instead which he misunderstood.) It seems he has 90 percent chance of coming through and if he survives he will probably go on to lead a normal life (albeit with a 3-6 month recovery time).

We have a bit more info on Helen’s father. The aneurysm was detected in his stomach because he had been coughing up . But in fact this was unrelated and coincidental. The aneurysm has not bled or burst (if it had he would be ). It is 5.5 cm- i.e. his artery has a two inch bulge. They are going to operate on him next Tuesday. It’s a dangerous (but unavoidable) operation. Once they cut the artery they have two minutes to put in place a replacement. Garry says they’ve told him there is only a 30 percent chance of success, though reports on the web suggest a better chance so we wonder if he may have misheard or misremembered (aneurysms are commonly because people don’t know they’ve got one until they burst).

We are going down on Friday and plan to return on Sunday evening.

Helen’s father, Garry, is unwell in hospital. He has an aneurysm in his stomach which has bled or burst. An aneurysm occurs when an artery wall weakens and so bulges out. They are often – though usually because they go undetected before bursting. They have also found aneurysms in the top of his legs. He is due to have major surgery on Monday or Tuesday of next week which will be followed by time in intensive care. We do not know the prognosis.

We are going down this weekend as a family to Bristol to see him. (So I’m afraid we will not be around for the TCH Celebration).

Please pray for Garry. He is not a believer. And please pray for Helen. It was this time last year that her mother became ill and died.

“Bonjour” and Dubois

I visited “Bonjour” today, he is truly broken and distraught. Pray he’d get bail very soon as he is crushed under the weight of incarceration. He is crying out to God as he has never done before. Philip Ireson the evangelical chaplain is meeting up with him.

Also the Dubois’ are here and settling. A house to rent is high on the agenda. Pray for their hearts to be resting in the security of their Shepherd.

Searching behind bars

Pray for Andy as he visits “Bonjour” in prison today. He turned a corner 4 weeks ago and became much more serious in his search for God. Began reading the bible and coming to church but then got accused of something unpleasant and is in jail until his court case in September.

This could really tip him over the edge and/or could bring him to the end of himself and into God’s loving arms.
